Sorry, but you’ve been duped.

First things first, my ten year old waited till 48 hours before midterms to pour seltzer on my macbook so it looks like I’ll be writing from my phone/iPad for the time being. Excuse any (more) typos.

I spent a good deal of time yesterday thinking about what to write, priortize, and emphasize before midterms. I’ve decided on medicaid, social security, tax cuts (for the most part), as well as targeting certain audiences. But that’s a hefty load for phone research and writing.

But then it occured to me that the reason I’d spent a “good deal of time” pre-laptop and seltzer mash up is because of all the disinformation, scandals, shock value, and blatant lies out there. It’s nearly impossible to cover all of this before midterms with my first class problems, but I’m going to try my best.

Staring slack-jawed at my laptop had nothing to do with my competency as a writer, but everything to do with the constant, almost intentional, intentional incompetency at the helm of the whole damn ship. There is this unrelenting, shameless, and seemingly unchecked leader of the free (for now) world.

Someone please tell me why this man ever appeared like a savory character? But what worries me (and I swear, I’m not an alarmist), is that half the country supports him, and out of those who do, a staggering amount have gone full Alex Jones “I’m in severe denial and excruciatingly paranoid so I’m going to make up an elaborate tale about why this thing i dont like is fake news”- never go full Alex Jones. For this set, the best explanation you’ll get likely involves pizza, lizard aliens, false flags, and you being a government shill or just a regular old sheeple. Sad face. For the more rational half, the best response you will get in his defense is, “Well, all politicians lie.”

No, Susan, they don’t lie like this. You have Google, so I don’t need to list all of his lies, but I will be doing a separate post explaining his motives and how he isn’t as stupid as we think (just go with it.

Our system is in pieces. I have never felt like we will ever truly know everything that goes on behind the scenes with lobbyists, illegal donations, voter tampering, and so on. That should change, but when a politician knowingly lies (and then lies about lying), shouldn’t we ask ourselves why?

Perhaps it’s to smear Democrats, as he did recently in saying they opposed his opiod crisis bill, which was actually only opposed by one representative – a Republican from Utah. Don’t even tell me he didn’t know that. This was to smear Democrats, plain and simple.

With the caravan, he is riling up his base as a right-wing militia forms near the border. He is constantly invoking fear, alleging that we will lose everything if Democrats win on Tuesday.

There has to come a point where people stop being afraid of choosing the most unpresidential candidate in quite some time and say, “Enough is enough.”

Enough with the bullshit, enough with the fear mongering, enough with the blatant lies. Stop assuming most of America is stupid enough to fall for your crap just because they put their trust in your promise to “make America great again.”

The lies the president tells us are intentional and insidious. If you support him, you’ve been duped. Mitch McConnell himself said he wanted to cut into Medicare and Social Security, not the big, bad Democrats.

I don’t understand this blind belief in everything an obvious charlatan, tax evader, bigoted criminal says, but it needs to stop, now. Stop believing everything he says just because he said it.

But first, you must acknowledge his biggest lie: to hold up the constitution. He has called for violence against the media in direct violation of the First Amendment. He is painting you into a corner by telling you the “mainstream media is fake.” In doing that, your only sources of information spoonfeed you exactly what you want to hear. And fear.
